The Director of Quality Services is responsible to lead the Quality Assurance Department and Function in all aspects of Quality, New Products/Equipment, Regulatory Affairs, Innovation, Sanitation, as well as improvements of existing products. In addition, the incumbent establishes and manages the nutritional requirements of all products manufactured and provides technical support to internal departments as well as external customers. The incumbent will manage both the Toronto and Vancouver facilities.


  • Understanding of plant production systems, manufacturing equipment, processing and filling equipment, GMP, HACCP, SQF, sanitation, plant safety, quality systems, kosher and organic regulations
  • Develop a Quality Assurance strategy and align across the organization. Clearly define roles, responsibilities, and the points of connection including Research & Development, Operations, Quality, and Regulatory affairs
  • Perform process capability studies to verify that all manufacturing specifications can be met within co-pack and company owned manufacturing facilities in Vancouver and Toronto
  • Manages the QA departments in Vancouver and Toronto
  • Implement commissioning protocols for new process equipment installed at both co-pack and company owned manufacturing facilities
  • Manage QA regulatory affairs, and all food safety requirements
  • Drive innovation in the company, new products, new processes, and new equipment
  • Provide guidance and direction on new product start-ups
  • Provide guidance with manufacturing processes such as lean manufacturing
  • Work with authoritative bodies, government, suppliers, customers etc. to meet company goals
  • Perform technical assessments with new partners and within the company


  • Works in an office and laboratory as required Some plant work required during plant trials and introduction of new products, manufacturing methods and packaging
  • Permanent full time (40 hours / week) 
  • Work hours flexible
  • Some travel required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science, or related Technical Degree with a master’s degree preferred
  • Progressive & Stable work history is a must
  • 10-15 years Quality Assurance experience in food manufacturing environment.
  • 2-4 years Sanitation experience
  • 2-4 years Lab Management experience
  • 6-10 years multi-plant QA responsibility preferred
  • 4-6 years Soya industry/process experience preferred
  • 5 years experience in R&D
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Superior ability to team builds and ability to coach and teach others
  • Good analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Must be highly creative and have a passion for food and/or cooking
  • Highly resourceful and able to overcome significant challenges with a determined positive attitude
  • Able to write up experimental design reports, evaluations and results 
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian & USA Food & Drug Regulations, labeling laws and regulations, nutritional regulations and organic requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of Food Composition & Food Chemistry
  • Experience with nutrient composition & nutrient databases
  • Knowledge of health & safety issues including allergies; genetically modified foods; organics; organics; irradiation; functional foods, herbs & supplements
  • Knowledge of HACCP and QA methods in the food industry
