Maintenance Manager – Full Time

The Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the maintenance of all buildings and production equipment owned by Sunrise Markets Inc. The incumbent formulates and arranges plans to update systems or reduce operating costs and also analyzes and solves technical maintenance problems in the manufacturing plant.


  • Reduces machinery downtime by ensuring that problems are diagnosed quickly and machines are repaired in a timely fashion
  • Implements and maintains an effective preventative maintenance program to reduce or eliminate machinery downtime
  • Maintains and monitors an adequate spare part and tools inventory without overstocking parts or tools
  • Negotiates with trades and vendors on purchases of services and parts
  • Plans and manages the maintenance budget
  • Monitors, reviews and improves the processes for planning and control over capital and operating budgets to prevent cost overruns
  • Assists in the design of new production lines
  • Assists in the re-engineering of existing production lines or equipment to ensure that continuous improvement and/or safety objectives are met
  • Supervises and provides technical leadership for the maintenance technicians
  • Develops relevant training programs for the maintenance team
  • Works jointly with production management staff to develop training programs for machine operators, lead-hands, supervisors and other company staff on operating the production equipment
  • Oversees equipment projects (site prep, installation, hook-up, and commissioning)
  • Reports observations of any deviation to the process/procedure or a defect or nonconformance to the product which may result in a situation requiring food safety assessment and placing product on hold or scrapping the product to the management immediately
  • Commits to and motivates employees to go beyond the rules to ensure food quality, protect food safety, assume ownership of quality and food safety programs, and take appropriate actions
  • Performs other duties or undertake projects as assigned by the Plant Superintendent


  • Permanent Full-Time position. Regular work hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8:30am to 5:00pm (0.5-hour lunch break). Flexible work hours to meet Production requirements
  • On call (Answer internal enquiries after work as required)
  • 75% of the time working in the production plant (repairs / maintenance / projects) and 25% of time working in an office environment
  • Heavy lifting required occasionally
  • Exposed to loud noise; need to wear hearing protection when working in the production areas


  • Minimum: College Diploma or Post-Secondary Vocational / Technical School Diploma or Applied Science Technologist Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years experience in maintenance in a factory environment, including supervision
  • Project management experience
  • Inter-provincial Electrician Certificate
  • Basic level First Aid
  • Strong problem solving and PLC programming skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in Visio, Excel, Word, MS Project and maintenance related software
  • Good written and verbal English
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong teamwork, team building, leadership, and motivation skills
