Production Manager - Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Manager manages, plans, provides leadership and evaluates the operations of the production department. He/she is responsible for ensuring that overall production operates safely and efficiently to meet production plan and deliver Sunrise quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages weekly production based on sales forecast, plant capacity, and material availability: aiming for a high fill rate for all items produced in the Toronto plant while utilizing minimal operating costs.
  • Manages production: disciplinary actions, enforcing company policy, conflict resolution, performance evaluation, and absenteeism; documentation of supervisory activities for employee records
  • Directs the hiring process with his supervisors and provides training programs: establishing a highly motivated, flexible, quick-responding, and quality work force
  • Works with the production planner to ensure worker schedules are in place to efficiently meet weekly production targets.
  • Effectively measure, control, and continuously improve efficiency
  • Effectively measure, control, and continuously improve wastage concerns: ingredients, packaging materials, WIP, and finished products
  • Works with Quality and Maintenance departments to cultivate a Continuous Quality Improvement mentality on the production floor to yield better processes, to make every production employee a quality conscious employee and to reduce wastage, and to increase utilization of equipment capacity.
  • Is responsible for product quality and the prevention of substandard quality: identifies and reduces costs resulting from poor quality; anticipates problem areas and takes necessary steps to circumvent these problems.  
  • Understands and enforces Employment Standards, promotes good hygiene and safe food handling (GMP) 
  • Understands, promotes and enforces SQF, mandates specified by Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ensures that equipment is properly safeguarded against safety hazards and maintained regularly for smooth machine operation
  • Ensures that equipment is properly calibrated on a regular basis
  • Ensures that operators, production workers, are properly trained in equipment operation to uphold safety practices and minor trouble shooting and care of equipment
  • Works with Quality and Maintenance departments to cultivate a Continuous Quality Improvement mentality on the production floor to yield better processes, to make every production employee a quality conscious employee and to reduce wastage, and to increase utilization of equipment capacity.
  • Plans and manages departmental budget

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 70% in the production floor and 30% in an office setting
  • Full-Time position (40 hours per week), Tues-Sat regular shift 11am -7:30pm
  • Be available to work any day of the week to meet production requirements as needed.
  • Answer internal enquiries after work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION

  • Minimum 3-5 years of Production Manager experience required, preferably in food industry.
  • College, University or Technical degree, preferably in manufacturing or food production.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good written and verbal English.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong teamwork/team building/motivation skills.
  • Computer skills:  Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
