QA Manager – Full Time

The Quality Assurance Manager oversees the general quality function in the production plant and supervises the quality assurance staff. The incumbent also collaborates with Sunrise staff in Toronto to maintain high quality standards.


  • Reviews daily quality assurance documents to ensure that all products meet quality specifications
  • Monitors the quality of all incoming ingredients and packaging. Reviews and files all relevant quality control documents
  • Enforces quality standards and control parameters in all production departments
  • Conducts sanitation and environmental checks on a weekly schedule
  • Responsible for the hiring, training and evaluation of all QA technicians, QA Supervisor and SQF Practitioner
  • Develops, monitors, and implements the HACCP, SQF program
  • Develops, monitors, and implements the Allergen Prevention program
  • Provides technical assistance and supervision for the Organic program and Kosher certification
  • Prepares a quarterly schedule of work for the QA technicians
  • Creates and implements a cost-effective budget for the laboratory and sanitation departments. Responsible for purchasing laboratory and sanitation supplies/equipment
  • Validates annually the thermal process and shelf life of all plant products
  • Develops, maintains, updates, and delivers training programs in Good Manufacturing Practice, WHMIS and Allergen Prevention to employees
  • Reviews and responds to all quality complaints/concerns within the plant/company and ensures thorough documentation
  • Works with QA in Vancouver to maintain consistent specifications and high quality of products
  • Generates a weekly report for the plant manager
  • Conducts probationary and annual performance reviews with subordinates
  • Participates with management in accomplishing company goals and missions
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Services Manager


  • Appointed as SQF Practitioner 
  • Leads and manages SQF team in building a food quality and food safety culture in which all employees share the responsibility for food quality and food safety
  • Commits to and motivates employees to go beyond the rules to ensure food quality and protect food safety, assume ownership and take appropriate action without direction
  • Establishes and implements employees’ training needs to ensure they have required competencies to carry out functions affecting product legality (federal, provincial and municipal regulations), safety and quality


  • Work is mainly performed in an office environment and some work is performed on the production floor or QA lab
  • Permanent Full-Time (40 hours per week) position with (half hour lunch), some evening/night/weekend work required
  • Some travel required


  • College or University Degree/Diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Nutrition or a related discipline of study
  • 3-5 years of progressive supervisory and/or management experience
  • Strong computer application skills in MS Office Applications
  • Good written and verbal English
  • Ability to speak other languages (other than English) an asset
  • Ability to multitask, have good organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills built on a team-focused approach
