SQF Practitioner - Full Time

The SQF Practitioner is responsible for coordinating technical projects such as CQI, CPI, regulatory affairs and food safety programs. The individual will also take a lead role in the development of the SQF program and CQI program to ensure implementation of the programs onto the production floor and any other area of the business that requires support.


  • Developing documentation, implementation and staff training of the production facility’s SQF/HACCP, CQI, CPI programs
  • Developing documentation, implementation and staff training of the Company’s other food safety programs, policies and procedures in conjunction with QA Manager for each location
  • Scheduling and coordinating validation trials and mock recalls in regards to the SQF/HACCP, CQI and CPI programs leading to reassessment and, where necessary, improvement of established processes
  • Performing data trend analysis using statistical tools, reviewing and monitoring any deviations leading to the improvement in staff training and prevention strategies
  • Ensuring management team is appraised of the status of any food safety system issues
  • Assisting the Quality Assurance Manager with customer and third party audits
  • Liaising with other departments, customer representatives and government regulators on current policies, procedures and legislative requirements in SQF/HACCP and other food safety programs
  • Staying abreast of legislative changes by attending trade shows and industry information sessions as it relates to changes in the regulatory arena
  • Overseeing company audits and ensuring compliance for; GMO, Kosher, SQF and Organic including any other regulatory audit required
  • Supporting innovation for any new product by ensuring regulatory standards are met


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Foods Science 
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in food project development with demonstrable track record and progressive supervisory experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills 
  • Skilled in MS applications: Excel & Word
  • Must be highly creative and have a passion for food and/or cooking
  • Highly resourceful and able to overcome significant challenges with a determined positive attitude
  • Able to write up experimental design reports, evaluations and results 
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian & USA Food & Drug Regulations, labeling laws and regulations, nutritional regulations and organic requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of Food Composition & Food Chemistry
  • Experience with nutrient composition & nutrient databases
  • Knowledge of health & safety issues including: allergies; genetically modified foods; organics; irradiation; functional foods, herbs & supplements
  • Knowledge of HACCP and QA methods in the food industry


  • Permanent full time (40 hours / week) 
  • Work hours flexible
  • Work is mainly performed in an office environment and some work is performed on the production floor or QA lab
